ezSAM Enterprise Components

Introduction ezSAM stands for "Easy Storage (mostly file data in the storage) Administration and Management". The focus is to provide easily usable and administered functionality for data protection, business continuity and disaster recovery to home users, small and medium size (SMB) businesses and to provide easily usable and deployable tool for storage infrastructure optimization and monitoring to enterprise businesses.
For the SMB environment and departmental computing environment of enterprises, unused disk space of one file server is leveraged to provide data protection and business continuity functions for the data of another file server at fraction of the cost of other alternatives.

ezSAM is an agent-less environment in which there is no need to deploy any agent program in the computers that are being managed. At the same time, for large environment, multiple copies of the ezSAM software could be deployed for scalability and the management information from all the installations of ezSAM could be consolidated through a single ezSAM server.

Overall file data management functionality is segmented in few modules (described below) and packaged in such a way that ezSAM software could be used in environments ranging from single computer used by a home user to few computers in a SOHO to tens of computers in an SMB to hundreds (if not thousands) of computers in an enterprise environment.

Apart from the ezSAM family of products, BlueSAN Technology provides consulting services for various data center management projects of enterprise customers. In consulting engagements, BlueSAN uses and provides many of these ezSAM modules for free.

ezSAM-Ent Modules:

ezSAM-Ent is built on top of ezSAM-Pro by adding the enterprise specific functionality. As a result, the Vault, Analyzer, Optimizer, Replicator and Distributor modules are common between ezSAM-Pro and ezSAM-Ent. These modules are described in the ezSAM-Pro Introduction documnet.
The modules Archiver, Controller, Forecaster, Auditor, TheftGuard and Migrator are the add-on modules in the enterprise environment. Brief description of the modules are given below.

Archiver The ezSAM Archiver is a server side module of ezSAM to support in-house remote vaulting of data in large enterprise environment.
The software provides easily deployed and administered solution for laptop and desktop data protection to thousands of users in an enterprise environment.

Controller The ezSAM Controller is a server side module of ezSAM to support large enterprise environment that requires consolidation of analyzed information from multiple deployment of ezSAM Analyzer.
Apart from the reports that are available in ezSAM Analyzer, an additional set of reports for DiskQuota management and storage utilization charge back are available as part of this module.

Forecaster The ezSAM Forecaster is a server side module of ezSAM that projects the storage growth in file shares, servers, groups of servers across geography, departments or applications. Based on the trend of data creation that is available from the ezSAM Analyzer, this module can predict and track the storage need in an enterprise.
BlueSAN provides this module for free in consulting engagements.

Auditor The ezSAM Auditor is a server side module of ezSAM that helps an enterprise in tracking presence of file data items in the computing environment of the enterprise. Starting from the time a file data is created, all events of update, copy, move, print, delete and rename of the file data item are captured, correlated and stored. This provides complete visibility to the usage of any sensitive file data in the enterprise.

TheftGuard The ezSAM TheftGuard is a server side module of ezSAM that helps an enterprise against data loss through removable storage devices.

Migrator The ezSAM Migrator is a server side module of ezSAM to support enterprise environment in migrating file data from one file server to another file server or content management system. For example, through the use of this module, an enterprise can migrate data from Windows file servers to SharePoint and keep them in sync until the file servers can be taken out of service.
